NAME
vrcon - is a curses based rcon utility for the Linux/Unix console
SYNOPSIS
vrcon [-h] [-v] [-C config file] [-S] [-s n] [-l] [-m] [-r command]
DESCRIPTION
vrcon
is a Curses-based rcon utility that allows admins to quickly administer game servers. It was originally written for Counter-Strike but it should work for most Half-Life MODS, Medal of Honor, Call of Duty, and Quake 3. It has the ability to stat UT2K4 and BF1942/Vietnam.
OPTIONS
- l
-
list users on your default server
- m
-
list maps that the default server knows about.
- C <config file>
-
Use config file instead of default ~/.vrcon
- r <command>
-
Runs the rcon command and returns results to the stdout. (To specify a differet server than the default use -s)
- s n
-
Overide the default server. n is a numeric value.
1 would be the first server listed in your config file
2 would be the next one. etc etc.
- S
-
Show severs from config file (and numbers for use with -s)
- h
-
list help
- v
-
show version
USAGE
When you first start up vrcon you will be given three selectable items.
- Connect
-
will connect and query your default server.
- Server
-
will give you a listbox of your servers
that you set up in your .vrcon file.
- Quit
-
will well, quit.
Once you have connected to a server your second menu will be up.
On the left is your selectable items.
- Refresh
-
This will connect to the server and refresh the player names
and info.
- rcon
-
Allows you to enter in an rcon command to be sent to the
server. If there is any output from the command it will be placed on the
bottom of your screen.
- Change Map / Map
-
Gives a listbox of all installed maps. Select one and hit
the enter key. the q key will quit and return you to the main menu.
- Server
-
Gives you a listbox of known servers you can query.
- cm_say
-
If you compiled Clan_Say support into vrcon, you will get this option. The text you enter will be displayed on the middle of the screen in green bold text. (Half-Life only)
- amx_say
-
If you compiled AMX_Say support into vrcon, you will get this option. The text you enter will be displayed on the middle of the screen in green bold text. (Half-Life only)
- pb_pblist
-
If you compiled PUNKBUSTER support into vrcon, you will get this option. This will print out the output from the command pb_sv_plist.
- pb_ss
-
If you compiled PUNKBUSTER support into vrcon, you will get this option. This will print out the output from the command pb_sv_getss.
- Ban 1 Min
-
Gives a listbox of current player. Selecting one and
hitting the enter key will ban the player for 1 minute. (Half-Life only)
- Ban 30 Min
-
Same as above, but will ban for 30 minutes. (Half-Life only)
- Ban Perm
-
Same as above but permanently. (Half-Life only)
- Kick
-
Gives a listbox of current player. Selecting one and
hitting the enter key will kick the player. (MOH and Quake3 only)
- Quit
-
Exits the application.
On the right had side is a listing
of the current players and stats.
Keys
- q
-
Will quit the program, or if you are in a listbox, it will exit the listbox
and return you to the previous menu.
- n
-
Map Listbox. Will do the next page down of maps.
- p
-
Map Listbox. Will do the previous page up of maps.
- t
-
Map Listbox. Will bring you to the top of the list.
- b
-
Map Listbox. Will bring you to the bottom of the list.
- SPACE
-
Map Listbox. Same as n. Page down.
FILES
.vrcon
You must setup your vrcon config file along with setting up atleast one server to connect to. If this is your first time installing, a new .vrcon will be created in your home directory that contains the sample config file ready for you to edit. The .vrcon file needs to be placed in your home directory. (IE /home/joeuser/.vrcon )
Global Settings
- timeout
-
This will set the timeout in seconds 0 is a good setting unless you are experiencing very high latency to the server. This needs to be set.
- u_timeout
-
This will set the timeout in micro seconds. 100000 is a good default. It should be noted that this need to be set.
- admins
-
Add any WONID's or STEAMID's here that you want flagged with a *.
- flag
-
Like admins but flags the WONID's with a ! useful for monitoring if a certain player (WONID) has come back.
- flagip
-
Like admins but flags the IP's with a ! useful for monitoring if a certain player has come back.
- Servers
-
- [game type]
-
Game type, *this is required*
- name
-
The name you want to call your server. This is for your reference only and will be the name that shows up in the map listbox.
- IP
-
The IP of the server.
- sport
-
Port for the server (for HL server stating and rcon use the same port)
- rport
-
Rcon port if different than server port
- username
-
Username if rcon needs a username (IE battlefield)
- password
-
The rcon password
Valid game types are
hlife - for all Half-Life based mods
bf1942 - for BattleField 1942 and Road To Rome
moh - Medal of Honor Allied assault or Spearhead
cod - Call of Duty
ut2k4 - Unreal Tournament 2003/4
quake3 - Quake 3 servers. MODS should work
(Urban Terror is the only one that has been tested)
EXAMPLES
- vrcon -r "mp_friendlyfire 1"

Will set mp_friendlyfire to 1 on the default server
- vrcon -s 2 -m
-
Will list the maps on the second server listed in your .vrcon file
- vrcon -s 4
-
This will start the gui and set the default server to the fourth entry in your .vrcon file
